Our Story

Kalona Makers Market has been evolving since December of 2017 when two friends spontaneously created a pop-up store inside the showroom of Schlabaugh & Sons Woodworking in Kalona, Iowa. It was such a hit that we decided to make it permanent. Renovations soon began in the showroom. An art gallery was added. Several events were scheduled for local makers and artists. Workshops began. And everything we loved doing began taking shape.

The name Kalona Makers Market was established for our new joint venture to define a place where people can congregate and create as well as purchase local products. Workshops for women have a special place in our hearts and we plan to offer a lot of them. We want to provide opportunities for women to build and create, encourage them to be adventurous, and empower them with knowledge and skills. Our women’s woodworking classes are what started it all but we are quickly expanding to offer all types of hands-on workshops so that there is something for everyone.

We have a 2,000 square foot modern industrial workroom that houses our classes and workshops. The space also includes a dressing room, bathroom and certified kitchen.

The showroom is open for shopping Monday-Friday 10am - 3pm, but our events are the biggest draw and so much fun! To stay in the loop about upcoming events and workshops, follow Kalona Makers Market on Facebook and Instagram.
